The Stone Soul Concert series is recorded to be one of America’s longest-running soul music festivals. The first concert was held in 1988 and featured a star-studded lineup composed of The Whispers, the chart-topping funk group, Cameo, and several other soul and R&B performers. The show, held in Oakland, California, amassed over 5,000 fans and filled the original venue to the brim! Clearly, people love soul music! Hence, the Stone Soul Concert series was born. Each year, the festival attracts more spectators. Organizers also changed their venues numerous times to accommodate the influx of growing fans. Come 2023, the Stone Soul Concert will make its phenomenal return to the Concord Pavilion, which can easily house 12,500 music fans.

Some of the biggest names in the festival’s history include Grammy Award-winning artists, such as Baby Face and George Clinton. Last year, Gladys Knight wowed the crowd with her outstanding chops as she performed her smash hits, including the iconic “Midnight Train to Georgia.” This year, the concert remains at the top of the soul music game with big names in R&B and soul.
